The hardwood top of the Cucina D'Vino Wine Cart is constructed of 2.25-inch thick edge-grain maple and stands at nearly three feet tall, the ideal height for serving or preparing drinks and appetizers. The top is treated with a Varnique semi-gloss finish that seals and protects the wood, but is not meant to be cut upon directly. If you require a cutting surface, we recommend these options:
1) You can purchase a separate butcher block cutting board to use atop the surface of this wine cart. We have many butcher block cutting boards to choose from.
2) You can sand off the Varnique semi-gloss finish from the top of the wine cart using a piece of fine steel wool. (Please consult a finish carpenter if you have questions about how this is best done.) If you choose to sand off the surface of your wine cart, you will need to then oil the surface and maintain it as you would an oil finish butcher block.
