With exceptional style, this kitchen island brings together fresh designs and Old World craftsmanship to create a hand-forged iron product that features the best of new and old. Employing traditional methods passed down for centuries, each piece is painstakingly shaped by hand using an anvil and hammer—a process called "forging." True wrought iron can be distinguished by its sensuous patterns, curves, and marks frequently evident from the forging and welding processes. Small irregularities are usually apparent and are valued as evidence of the smith’s unique craft.

This kitchen island is available in a variety of tantalizing finishes. All finishes are applied by hand, so minor variations can be expected. To create Sheer Metal, bare iron is clear-coated, allowing colors and stress marks from manufacturing to show—a very industrial look. The Natural Rust finish is deliberately oxidized (rusted) and sealed, resulting in a variety of warm brown tones that play off an interesting texture. Because it is a natural process, texture and coloration will vary. Florentine Gold features soft gold sponged over Natural Rust, resulting in a more elegant appearance. And for a truly unique look, Crackle Colors are created by treating today's most popular shades to an aging technique that gives the piece added charm. The top color is forced to crack and peel, exposing brown color below. (Occasionally, small amounts of oxidation will seep through the color, generating areas with yellow/brown accents.) Crackle finishes are available in Crackle White, Crackle Squash, Crackle Green, and Crackle Red. Finishes cannot be matched, and there is no guarantee against further oxidation.

Four hand-rubbed weather-resistant finishes are also available (but they are not limited to outdoor use...they will look great in any room of the house!) Sumptuous Summer Nights reveals subtle reddish-brown undertones beneath a coat of soft black, giving the appearance of an old, well-used piece. Autumn Gold glows with warm gold and brown undertones. Spanish Moss features olive green with brown undertones. And Red Clay stands out with a warm brownish-red color and soft black accents. The optional natural stone used on the top of this kitchen island is honed to a matte finish, and then impregnated with a sealer. The stone typically includes small holes throughout that are caused by imbedded geodes and steam escaping during its formation, frequently causing the top surface and edges to be slightly irregular. Travertine Marble typically varies in pale shades of cream, soft gray and off-white. Copperstone Marbleis simply a natural variation of Travertine, but it has been discolored by nature’s addition of minerals and other elements. Therefore Copperstone will offer unique variations in color and pattern, ranging from soft terra cotta colors to rich reddish browns.
